At about 4.30pm, when the Patils returned, they found the lock on their front door broken, while gold and silver ornaments and cash, worth a total of around Rs 5.79 lakh, were stolen from the cupboard.

The couple then observed that the main door of the next flat belonging to Rayan Jaiswal was also broken and was open. Same way, two more flats on the first floor of the other block belonging to Nefa Gomes and Vikram Thakur were also broken open. As there were no occupants in other three flats, the robbers weren’t successful.

“While we were investigating the case, three others living in the same apartment approached us with similar complaints, i.e., unknown persons affected entry in their flats by breaking the locks of the main door. However, as they had not kept major valuable items in their house, they did not suffer a major loss, except for some cash. Thus, except for Patil, no other owner chose to lodge a complaint,” said police.

In another incident, a fifth-floor flat in Dempo Odyssey Building at Vasco was burgled by unknown persons. The burglars stole cash of Rs 10,000, but the owner has not lodged a complaint.

Meanwhile, Vasco police tried a dog squad and fingerprint experts into service, but they failed to get any clues. The case of theft has been registered against unknown culprits. PSI Yashwant Mandrekar is the investigation officer. Police are further examining the case.
