When the accused called up the police, they took no chance as there was the possibility of he changing his mind. “Based on sketchy details he confessed to the police, we formed a team and proceeded towards the crime site. We then saw a man waving off near Dolphin circle. He identified himself as Santosh Chatter and was taken into custody. He was brought to the police station and placed under arrest,” said a senior police officer. The weapon was also handed over to the police.
According to the sources, the tragic incident could have been averted if a group of friends partying together could have intervened into the matter in time, said the sources. The influence of an alcohol is said to be the main culprit behind this incident.
The locals have protested against the growing crime ration on the coastal belt and demanded the serious action against the criminal minded people on the beach belt. According to the Reports, one of the local residences of Calangute told the media that “Increase in crime in Calangute and surrounding areas is now forcing us not to let our children out of the house because anyone comes and stabs or assaults anyone. They (non-Goans) drink in public areas and then fight with the locals. This needs to be stopped.”
Another local, Mahesh Naik said, “This is the second murder in the last two months. We don’t know what is happening in Calangute. After prostitution and drugs, now murders are haunting Calangute.”
