According to the reports, owner of Curlies beach shack, Edwin Nunes was granted the bail along with the waiter who had been arrested by the Anjuna Police a day ago on the grounds of having narcotics substance in their possession. The decision of the court came as a shock to many people because according to the law, having the Narcotics substances in possession is punishable with the rigorous imprisonment.
But with due time, the law can be twisted as per our needs. The raid on Curlies came as a surprise to many as the owner of the beach shack is well connected with the politicians and police which is why till date no one has dared to put hands on him. But the only question is, why all this drama then? The reports say the owner and waiter had been granted the bail despite the strong resistance from the cops. Really??
Goa has been plagued with alcohol and drugs that just keeps growing day by day as it slowly becomes a breeding ground for dealers who would stoop to any level to ensure their business stays intact. Having let these dealers pimp our youth into destruction the arrest of Curlies and Nyex club’s owner came as a ray of hope that this can be stopped. But, unfortunately, one of them has been set free giving a green flag to these drug monsters, so that, they can commence their business once again.
According to the reports, on Wednesday, the Panaji sessions court granted bail to Edwin Nunes owner of Curlies beach shack and his waiter. However, bail was refused to the Mumbai-based operator of Nyex Club Rohan Shetty and he is still detained in police custody along with the patron Joe Raymond Junior who was arrested on Monday with drugs in his possession until Thursday.
The court while granting bail to Nunes and the waiter, Manjunath Anverikar of Pernem, asked them to report to Anjuna police station for three days. It may be recalled that the Anjuna police on Sunday night had raided Curlies Beach Shack and found Anverikar in possession of 7.3gm of charas worth Rs 7,500 and the charge had been framed against Nunes for allegedly allowing the waiter to push drugs in the premises owned by him.
Police strongly opposed bails to Nunes and Anverikar and argued that they wanted both the accused in the police custody to interrogate for information on who else is involved, however, the court granted bail to the duo, as quantity of narcotics seized from Anverikar was classified as ‘minor’ and thus, technically qualified for a bail. Drugs seized are categorized as minor, variable and commercial quantity and persons with possession of drugs in the minor category are granted bail.
Court refused bail to Shetty and Raymond as police had arrested Raymond on Monday night with illegal possession of 11.04gm of charas worth Rs 12,000 and 0.8gm of MDMA worth Rs 28,000, which falls under the ‘variable’ category.
Police said their investigations revealed that Shetty, who is a resident of Borivali (East) in Mumbai, allowed the accused to use his premises to peddle drugs.
