Crime Branch of Goa police has become very active in the state with swift actions against the culprits in society. Whether it is cracking of the flesh trade business in Goa or raiding the Matka dens. According to the information available the reliable sources, the crime branch of Goa police has busted the Matka (Gambling) racket that was operating from the flat at Candolim in North Goa. Police have arrested two accused from the premises and sealed the flat but the Matka kingpin Mohsin Shaikh is said to be on the run.
This is the first of its kind of raid that Goa police crime branch has ever done. Matka is running freely in the state under wings of politicians and police but till date, no one tried to raid the den of Matka, claimed the sources. This raid has surely brought huge pride to the police department which is considered as the center of corruption by the common man in the state.
The main accused Mohsin Shaikh who was running the entire show and one of the ringleaders of matka activities in north Goa is apparently absconding said the police sources. The sources have informed that the raid had been conducted on Friday night in which two accused were arrested by the crime branch. One of them is Shekhar Das and Shabir Mulgund both residents of Porvorim were later released on bail said the sources. During the raid, police attached thousands of rupees and matka gambling material. Incidentally, the same flat was raided by the Crime Branch police earlier this month in connection with matka gambling activity.
According to the sources in Goa police, Das is said to be working for Shaikh, a known figure in matka gambling activities in North Goa. Police are on the lookout of Shaikh who is said to be on the run. The flat where the raid was conducted was used to collect the daily report from the bookies. Over 7 bookies used to collect bets from the public and the report was handed over to Das at the flat. The flat is owned by Das, informed police.
The sources have also made the revelation that, the kingpin Mohsin Shaikh was running the business of matka in much-planned manner, based on that Mohsin Shaikh used to send the collected amount outside Goa to the upper level. In the event of his arrest, he used to take the entire blame on himself and never used to reveal the names of the people sitting above him. This way he used to make sure that he gets out by paying the small fine and at the same time the names of his bosses were never exposed before the police.
The raid was conducted by crime branch team headed by PSI Sujay Korgaonkar under supervision SP Crime Branch Karthik Kashyap. It is no hidden fact that Mohsin Shaikh is not the only player of this game. There are more players that include some of the highly placed names in Goa.
