15m High Speed Patrol boat designed and built by Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) for Directorate of Fisheries (DOF), Govt. of Goa, named ‘AVE MARIA’ was formally commissioned by theHon’ble Chief Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar, in the distinguished presence of Shri. Avertano Furtado, Hon’ble Minister of Fisheries, Hon’ble MLA of Vasco Mr. Carlos Almeida &RAdm Shekhar Mital, NM(Retd), CMD, GSL on 25th August 2014 at 1030 hrs at Fisheries jetty at Panaji. Dr. (Smt) Shamila Monteiro, Director of Fisheries, Govt. of Goa along with her officials were the host for the function. After commissioning of the boat, the Hon’ble Chief Minister sailed on the boat alongwith the other distinguished guests.
“AVE MARIA” has been designed and constructed to operate at max speed of 30 knots. The craft is highly seaworthy and able to sustain operation upto sea state 3 in open sea. The boat will be used for patrolling duties by Fisheries department. The boat is equipped with latest navigational equipments like AIS SYSTEM, RADAR X BAND, ECOSOUNDER, FOG HORN, VHF-DSC, VHF RADIO and GPS.
The boat was handed over one and half month prior contractual delivery date to Directorate of Fisheries, after successful completion of test & trials, While interacting with the press on the occasion, Hon’ble Chief Minister expressed plans to acquire additional 2 similar boats for the fisheries dept. in due course.
