You can never tell where your destiny would lead you in the future, something similar looks like turned out with former PWD minister and south Goa heavyweight politician Churchill Alemao, according to the news published by the PTI “In a strange quirk of fate, former Goa public works department minister Churchill Alemao, recently arrested in connection with the Louis Berger bribery case, is lodged in a jail whose foundation stone he laid almost five years back.” Churchill was under judicial remand for almost 7 days has been sent to newly constructed Colvale Jail on Thursday whose foundation stone he had laid in 2010.
But surprisingly Churchill did not look heartrending about the incident at all as he proudly told his supporters and the media “I myself had laid foundation stone of the Colvale jail. There are enough facilities there,” he said while moving out of the district jail. The district judge B P Deshpande on Thursday remanded the former PWD minister to judicial custody for the pending hearing of his bail plea which is expected to come up in the court on Friday.
Colvale Jail is around 40 KM from the Capital city spread across the area of around 2 lakh square meters and it is constructed spending around 107 Crore rupees which was inaugurated recently on May 30, 2015. This facility is called “Correction Home” rather than jail or prison keeping with the guidelines of National Human Rights Commission.
This place was made to accommodate the Aguada Jail prisoners with the present capacity of accommodating 300 inmates with the facilities like 15-bed hospital, a dental unit and a pathology lab with the pharmacy, it is heard that soon this place will also have high speed internet connection to facilitate the video conferencing facility for the inmates.
The future of the jail inmates looks to be bright in India with the amount of facilities being provided to them in the jail itself under the name of Human rights. At least at the moment Churchill will have the English toilet and clean environment which he was desired of, while lodged at the police custody.
