South Goa heavyweight politician Churchill Alemao who was picked up by Goa Police from his residence late night and subsequently put under arrest. The arrest was expected but what is more surprising here is that they arrested him on the pretext of talking to him. Mr. Alemao who is south Goa strongman did not go ahead to file anticipatory bail as according to him “I do not want to file anticipatory bail as I have not done anything wrong” that was his last statement before the arrest. Now it’s turn of all the fellow politicians to say something read here what they have to say about this entire issue…
There was a mixed reaction from the fellow politicians on his arrest. The most common reaction which is coming from most of the political colleagues is “How the Goa Police has become so efficient to investigate the Louis Berger case and arrest rival politicians while they took almost two months to arrest Mickky Pacheco who was evading imprisonment making the mockery of police as well as government.
Vishnu Wagh, the St. Andre MLA and Chairman of Kala Academy said that “Police has shown tremendous efficiently in the Louis Berger investigation and arrests, while they were unable to trace Nuem MLA and ex-minister Minister Mickky Pacheco for almost two months. He also said that the investigation is going in the right direction and that the police is taking the matter seriously.
The Chief Minister of Goa Laxmikant Parsekar remained very calm while saying that the “Everybody is same before the law and law is taking its own course, we have never brought this issue up as alleged, it was the US Judiciary system who brought this issue into the light and we have just done our job by facilitating the investigation process. The investigation will go on and the culprits will be brought to the justice.”
The Independent MLA called it Headline creation saying that “This matter needs to be probed provided the intentions are good”. Sawal also called it creation of news issue saying “Let people also see what the government is up to, the government knows very well as how much of importance to be given to which issue. While the congress legislator Alexo Reginaldo called it “High handedness of the present Government”. Vishwajit Rane avoided commenting on this issue While Babush Monseratte said that “It is evident that police did poor job in the case of Mickky Pacheco but it’s their job and they know it better” while quoting that “I have full faith in the judiciary system and the good will be done” he tried to remain as much balanced as possible.
According to the available information Goa Police have taken 4 days remand from the court to do further investigation in this matter to make them enable to file the charge sheet against Alemao. The counsel of police seek for the 12 days custodial remand for the purpose of inquiry as the involvement of Alemao has already been established in this case and police had requirement more evidence from him. The police also feels that since Alemao has previous criminal records it may go against their witnesses which could result in hampering the ongoing investigations. The counsel of Alemao argued in this matter saying that since his client is already cooperating the police there is no need of longer remand period. Alemao’s daughter Valanka was also present in the court during the hearing, when asked by the judge Alemao made request to make the provision of western toilet in the custody as he is suffering with knee problems and the present setup of the city custody do not have the facility of western toilet, acting on the request of Alemao the court instructed the police to make necessary arrangements.
Whatever the fellow colleagues may say but the fact remains unanswered as how come the entire system is working so efficiently towards this case of Louis Berger which is frictions in the size of Rs. 35000 crore mining scam in Goa which government had promised to unearth pre elections but nothing has been done so far.
