CCTV Surveillance Cameras for the city soon – Parsekar

Very soon the Panaji city will have the surveillance gadgets installed all over, mentioned the Chief Minister Mr. Laxmikant Parsekar in Goa Assembly. Mr. Parsekar said that “the government is seriously considering a provision of security cover to Panaji and its suburban areas by way of surveillance cameras.” Mr. Parsekar who is also holding the Home Department Portfolio was replying to the question raised by the Panaji MLA Mr. Sidharth Kunkalienkar during the question hour of ongoing Goa Assembly session.

He also said that presently select places in the capital city are under surveillance with the help of CCTV cameras, on trial basis. “The government desires to provide this facility to the entire state,” he added, stating that presently the city surveillance project has been undertaken for Panaji on pilot basis. “As per the estimate made by the government the areas from Porvorim to Dona Paula will require altogether 634 CCTV cameras,” According to him the capital city itself requires around 134 CCTV cameras at 35 different locations. “Keeping the capital city as well as its suburbs under CCTV surveillance would require an expenditure of approximately 4 crore. ,” This project would be very helpful for traffic regulation as well as surveillance, and the same would be taken up on priority basis said the CM.

Replaying to the another question of Panaji MLA CM said that government is also planning to bring Raibandar under the jurisdiction of Panaji police station which will require to undertake further expansion of the Panaji police station. “The traffic cell presently located at the Panaji police station can be shifted to some other place thus providing additional space to the Panaji police station, as also we can make available the adjacent unutilized garage space to this police station,” he added.

Mr. Parsekar also mentioned that the crime rate in the city has decreased during the year 2014 – 2015 compared to 2013 – 2014. “The numbers of cases have decreased and detection rate have been increased during the 2014 -2015” He said. This seems to be the valid point as looking the history of registering the cases by the police department.
