Finally, the Congress leaders in Goa have gracefully agreed that they were the one who brought the casinos to Goa and it was the biggest mistake they did then. The GPCC (Goa Pradesh Congress Committee) president Luizinho Faleiro has acknowledged that his government was behind the entry of casinos in Goa. The disclosure has done by Faleiro in the GPCC executive committee meeting in the city which was called to work out the political strategies to take up on the BJP-led government in 2017 elections.

While taking the responsibility for the casino’s existence in Goa Faleiro did not failed to fire the criticism on the opposition saying that, “It is agreed that Congress was responsible for allowing the entry of casinos in Goa, but it is the successive government who has promoted the casinos under the name of boosting the tourism in Goa.”  Faleiro further said that the executive committee has taken the decision that the congress party will be working out the strategies for the forthcoming assembly polls and that their resolution documents for the same are still under consideration.

Faleiro displayed the high amount of confidence saying that “This time their party will not practice the old style of waiting till the last moment to come up with the election manifesto but this time they will surprise the public.” He disclosed that the party cadres have been told to come out with the suggestions on a priority basis to format the manifesto list.

Faleiro was seen showing the deep concern over the bad name that Goa has earned during these days, “Goa is becoming a sin city of India due to the casino gambling,” he said. According to him, the policy of BJP government using the casinos to promote the tourism is becoming counterproductive and it is shaking up the social and moral values of the society and that in return it is affecting the youth and future generation of Goa. He said that party has already resolved that they will seriously discuss these issues and within two weeks they will come back with a final decision.

Faleiro claimed that Goa is not a poor state and it has a rich natural resource and that is why we do not have to look at the casinos for the generation of revenue anymore since the money coming from casinos is of unfair means. According to him, the executive committee now feels that the casinos are evil and they must go. “Casinos may bring revenue but is that revenue worth? We are ready to support the ruling government provided they take strict action against the casinos in Goa,” Faleiro said.

According to Faleiro, the recently held municipal elections have shown that people are not happy with the functioning of the present government, despite BJP backed panels winning 6 places in 11 municipal councils. People have shown its anger towards the ruling government in ZP and Municipal elections and the results say it all.

The game was started by Congress and now they want to come out of it. Casinos started entering the state on the behest of Congress government but now somehow the moral of congress is telling them to get rid of the casinos, at the same time BJP government is working on the tourism promotions using the casinos as their media vehicle. It is just the part of blame game which these political parties play depending on which side of the game they are. Tomorrow in case BJP loses the election they perhaps will dance to the same tune. Only time will tell what happens in future, but in meanwhile the people of Goa who are the spectators of this game, paying the price at the moment. They will have to decide what needs to be done in the future to make sure that we do not get any more storytellers. It’s your turn now to comment on this and we will look forward to having your valuable comments and suggestions.
