Car theft is one of the genuine issues haunting the people of city was brought to the end by police on Thursday by arresting two culprits involved in the theft racket. According to the news published by the local daily “The Panaji police, on Thursday, informed that they have busted a car theft racket, adding, they have arrested three persons and recovered two cars”. According to the sources the names of the arrested accused are Kuldip Singh a native of Kanpur UP age 22, Pawan Leykar(28)  & Pravin Bhise (27)  both from Ichalkaranji, Maharashtra. According to the police Singh was the mastermind behind these car robberies in the city while rests of the two were his associates.

The story narrated by the thieves is more interesting, the modus operandi used by them was very unique, according their statement “Accused Singh would search through the newspaper for the advertisement of ‘driver wanted’ and accordingly he would approach the advertisers to seek the job of driver, once he get employed within few days he would flee with the car”. Acting on this modus operandi the accused Singh managed to steal two cars from Panaji out of which one car stolen on 14th July from Neugi Nagar and the other car was stolen from Dona Paula on July 25.

Police laid the trap after receiving the complaint from victims and subsequently arrested the main accused Singh from Candolim area and recovered the stolen car from him. “During the course of investigation, the accused revealed two names of his associates Leykar and Bhise, who were subsequently picked up from Ichalkaranji- Maharashtra. The second car was also recovered at the instance of the accused,” Said the police official adding that the second car was sold and advance of Rs. 1 Lakh was taken by the accused.  Police blamed the car owners as they had not done the police verification of driver before employing him. The investigation of case was handled by the team of police from Panaji police station comprising of PI Sidhant Shirodkar, PSIs Suraj kankonkar and Rashmi Bhaidkar under the supervision of DySP Serafin Dias.

Thieves started using innovative techniques to steal and one has to be careful while dealing with the unknown people migrated recently and staying in the rented places without proper identifications. While dealing with such people for any business or employment purpose one should always get the police verification done. Goa is becoming the refuge of culprits. Rogues from various field come to Goa in a search of opportunities. Goans need to become little more vigilant and stop trusting on these short timers immediately.
