In the middle of Louis Berger matter which is very hot at the moment in the political platform of Goa another shocking incident took place, according to the news reported by IANS India, Dilip Malvankar, Brother in Law of Goa’s Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has been arrested by the ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau) while accepting the bribe of Rs. 100,000 for facilitating the allotment of plot in the Tuem industrial estate. According to the available information Malwankar was working as a field officer in government undertaking GIDC (Goa Industrial Development Corporation) and while taking the bribe he was on duty said the sources.

The Indian news agency IANS also reported that the Chief Minister has confirmed that Malwankar is his relative but he denied of any interface in this matter saying the “Law will take its own course”.  The news in this regards first spread on the social media as the ACB according to the process followed informs the media about any graft-related arrests but in this case it did not informed the arrest of Malwankar to the media. It was only though the social media all the news channels started getting in touch with the CM and ACB office to get more information on this issue.

Malwankar was working as a field manager at the GIDC when he apparently demanded the bribe from the complainant to facilitate the allotment of the plot in the industrial area, since the amount asked by Malwankar was big the complainant got in touch with ACB and they planned arresting the culprit red handed accordingly the ACB sleuths on Tuesday night arrested Malwankar while accepting the bribe of Rs. 1 Lakh from the complainant. The complainant Sanjay Kumawat, who is an industrialist from Jaipur was planning to set up the Ayurvedic Medicine manufacturing project in Tuem industrial estate in North Goa.

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar made it clear in front of media that though the accused is his close relative but law will take its own course “He is my relative, I cannot deny it, but law will take its own course,” Parsekar said. He also added that the family ties would not impede the police investigation. Parsekar also assured the media that he will not interfere into the investigation.

The arrest resulted out of the relentless harassment of the complainant from Malwankar to handover under the table money to get the plot allotted to him at Tuem Industrial Estate, where the complainant was planning to start the Ayurvedic Manufacturing Unit, to avoid the further harassment the complainant got in touch with the ACB head SP Bosco George, who is recently received the president’s award on the independence day. He said that it did not matter if the accused is related to the CM and he did not received any calls from the CM or any top authorities in that matter.

According to the available information the plot at Tuem Industrial estate was allotted to Mr. Kumawat in 2012 but the officers were creating hurdles to give the peaceful possession of the plot. In this case CM has shown great level of integrity by not interfering in the matter of his brother in law who happens to be the husband of CM’s wife’s sister, he made it clear in his statement that “I cannot keep the track of all my relatives and what they do, according to me everyone is same in front of Law” Said CM.

Although many of us have prejudices about the politicians and their connections with their relatives in misdeeds but looking at the stand the CM has taken in this case establishes more faith in the system. Or we can say that every coin has two sides or this could be just one side we could see at the moment? What is your perception about this true story?
