The S N Bhobe & Associates, who is handling the consultancy work of the multi-crore New Mandovi Bridge project, has been blacklisted by the Gujarat government for the collapse of the bridge in Gujarat.

Durgadas Kamat was speaking in the press conference called by the GenNext on the issue of the use of the rusted of steel bars being used in the construction work of ongoing Mandovi Bridge. It may be recalled that the issue of RUST was first published by the Goa Prism in its 2nd December edition for which was based on the information provided by one of the vigilant citizens of Goa by obtaining the documents from the RTI office and the same was verified by the GenNext supremo Durgadas Kamat.

Durgadas claimed that the former CM of Goa Manohar Parrikar initiated the process of construction of new Mandovi Bridge over the River, Central government denied the funding and finally it was the treasury of Goa government that took a toll of this huge and unnecessary investment. The job was entrusted to the corrupt GSIDC. “This issue of corrosion in the steel used for the construction of the new Mandovi Bridge was brought to the notice of me by one of the vigilant citizen of Goa and subsequent to that I myself went and inspected the same and found out that the steel bars used in the construction of this new bridge are completely corroded and nobody seem to be doing anything about it,” said Durgadas.

Durgadas also claimed that the government has paid rupees 10 crores as consultancy fees to the blacklisted S N Bhobe & Associates to the handle this project. “Government has paid 10 crores to S N Bhobe towards the consultancy charges, why Government is interested in appointing the blacklisted firm?” he demanded

Durgadas claimed that the contract which was allotted to L&T Company by GSIDC for 403 Crore has now swelled into 450 Crore and out of which Rupees 60 Crore has been already paid to the company. He appealed to the chief minister of Goa Shri. Laxmikant Parsekar, to conduct an inspection of the ongoing work and the use of spurious material in this project, “We demand that CM should visit the site and conduct an inspection and appoint the third party engineers under the chief secretary and form a committee to do the transparent enquiry into this project,” he said.

Durgadas also warned that in the case of no action is taken immediately in this issue then he will have no other option but to approach the court for the law. “If the enquiry is not conducted immediately in this then we will file a suit in the high court as we have been doing in other cases,” he said. He also praised the work of Parsekar saying that “He is not like Manohar Parrikar, and we hope that he acts in the same way and order an enquiry in this matter. We also demand the immediate sacking of political people from GSIDC as Parrikar always said that GSIDC and EDC should be handled by the professionals,” said Kamat. When asked who these politicians are, Kamat replied saying, “The Chairman and Vice Chairman to be replaced by the professionals.”
