The most contentious case of Fr. Bismarck took yet another turn today with the decision of chief minister to hand over Bismarck’s case to the crime branch. Family members and friends of Fr. Bismarck were pursuing the Goa Police to hand over the case to the crime branch, but Goa police continued to handle the case on their own. This new development has come as a surprise to many as how Goa Police have suddenly decided to change their mind.

According to the sources, the decision of transferring the case to crime branch came in the backdrop of the discovery of the blood-stained vest near the crime spot. DIG (deputy inspector general of police V Ranganathan told the media that on the directive of chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar they have issued the order to hand over the Bismarck Dias case to the crime branch. “The further investigation in this matter will be done by CID now,” said DIG. Meanwhile Parsekar said that “I have asked the Goa Police to hand over the Dias case to crime branch to maintain the transparency and there should be no scope for the doubt,” said Parsekar.

It may be recalled that on November 6, Fr. Dias went missing while he went swimming in the Mandovi River according to the narration made by the boys who accompanied him and later his body was found floating in the river at St. Estevam. The police claimed that Dias died due to accidental drowning, but his friends and family did not accept the police version and demanded the intervention of crime branch in this case. After repeated request police and the government did not listen to them but the recovery of new evidence made the police and government think again on this matter and finally the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar directed the police to handover the case of Fr. Bismarck to the crime branch.

While addressing to the media in a press conference Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that, “People should not think that my government is trying to suppress the matter of death of Fr. Bismarck under mysterious condition and hence we have decided to meet up with the public demand, in fact, I had personally contacted the police soon after the report of death of Fr. Bismarck and instructed them to probe the case from all the angles and it was much before anybody approached him in this regards.”

Looking at the new development that took place now in Fr. Bismarck case it can be assumed that the case would be handled by the crime branch with more transparency towards it and the real culprits, in this case, will be put behind the bar.
