THERE IS A SAYING THAT IN THE POLITICS THERE ARE NO PERMANENT FRIENDS NOR ENEMIES, AND THE GOAN POLITICAL SCENARIO IS THE FINEST EXAMPLE OF THE SAME. BABUSH FINALLY SACRIFICED HIS DREAM OF CONTESTING FROM PANAJI AND MADE A WAY CLEAR FOR PARRIKAR BY JOINING THE HANDS WITH BJP ALLY GOA FORWARD PARTY. BABUSH SLAMMED IT ON CONGRESS SAYING THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE STABILITY.
People in the political circle are really shocked at the move that Taleigao heavyweight Babush Monseratte made by joining the Goa Forward party. Now the whole scenario of the by polls will change as Babush along with Vijai Sardesai will now help Parrikar to win the seat from Panaji constituency, said the sources.
In one of the most unexpected developments that took place in the Goan politics on Tuesdays morning, the former MLA Babush Monseratte has finally joined the Goa Forward Party headed by the Fatorda MLA and TCP minister Vijai Sardesai. The sources have said that Babush made this move to make way for Parrikar in the forthcoming Panaji by polls.
According to the sources, Babush Monseratte who was making the claims of taking the bull by its horns all this while have unexpectedly cowed down at the final moments and decided to become the part of ruling government and the reason behind this not known by anybody.
Babush did not wait here and he went a step ahead by praising the Fatorda MLA and Goa Forward Party Supremo for protecting the Goenkarponn (Goanness), saying that Vijai had single handily fought for Goans and Goenkarponn in the assembly while he was in the opposition.
“Vijai was single-handedly fighting as the Opposition (in the last Assembly). He is trying to realize the dreams of Goans. If you see the common minimum program that Goa Forward has put forth, it shows the reversal of the policies of the previous government. The party is here to protect Goanness,” Babush said.
Meanwhile, Vijay Sardesai went one step ahead by giving the ruling party a certificate of stability and announcing the Parrikar as Panaji MLA before the election saying that he and Babush will now back Mr. Parrikar in the forthcoming elections in the Panaji constituency. “We will be supporting Parrikar in the bye-election. Monserrate joining Goa Forward is a major political development that will give the ruling coalition a stability certificate.”
However the Goa Forward President Shantaram Naik told the media that it is entirely Babush’s decision to join any party wished to, and he decided to join us. He further stated that his party offered an election ticket to Babush Monseratte as he was not the member of Congress or any other political party.
“We have offered the ticket to Babush, but he is not a member of the Congress. He is free to decide which party he wants to join and that is his choice. The Congress Party has not yet officially announced a candidate for the seat despite promising the ticket to Babush in the month of May,” he said adding that Congress was not very keen in offering him a ticket as the AICC Goa desk Incharge Chella Kumar, had told the media earlier that “If he wishes, we will discuss, naturally. He was a Congress MLA only a few months ago.”
When media asked Babush if at all he would consider contesting on the Congress ticket if offered, he said that Congress is not very serious about reviving itself in the state of Goa. “The Congress is basically not serious (in taking a step forward). I have been meeting several leaders but they don’t seem serious… there are many Congress leaders who are frustrated. Two senior Congress leaders are running the party as a proprietorship. These two leaders feed the Congress High Command on what is happening in Goa.”
Babush had contested the earlier election on United Goans Party ticket against the BJP’s sitting MLA Sidharth Kuncoliencar, and lost by a narrow margin of 1069 votes. Later he had announced that he will file his candidature against the Parrikar from Panaji on Congress ticket.
There are various speculations on the Babush’s joining GF and taking his step back from forthcoming election arena, but everyone preferred to remain tight-lipped at the moment. If you have anything to say, please do share your views in your comments.
