Less than 2 kms south of Colva is the more tranquil beach of Benaulim village. It is one of the few places in Goa where one can glimpse handicrafts typical to this area. The best of the traditional rosewood furniture is made here. Also Benaulim is famous as the place where the legendary Parashuram’s arrow landed, by which Goa was created. About 2 km away from Colva is the Benaulim, which is more peaceful and serene than Colva. The best thing about Benaulim is that it is still rather undiscovered by domestic tourists even though it is a fishing beach. It gets fairly crowded in the evenings and on weekends, it gets fairly crowded with local visitors who get off buses about a kilometer away and pour onto the beach. A short walk will get you to Benaulim beach, part of the 28 km long stretch of white sand in South Goa which feature some of the finest hotels in the state. In South Goa, this long stretch of white sand is great for sun lovers. 41 kms away from Panaji and 2 kms from the longest beach Colva is Benaulim beach. If you wish to be at some place close to nature and totally untouched, than Benaulim is the place for you.
Legend has it that this is the place where an arrow shot by Lord Parshuram, sixth incarnation of Vishnu landed. The arrow shifted back the hills hence forming the Konkan. The place was hence named Banavli) and later distorted to Benaulim by Portuguese. The place is also special for Christians as it’s the birth place of the venerable Father Joseph Vaz. Where in the world do you find strings of mythology attached to a beach but Benaulim is one beach that does.

A main attraction of this beach is the dolphin spotting trips. The trips are reasonably priced and chances of spotting dolphins fairly high.
Apart from boat rides, there are also options of parasailing, jet skiing and wind surfing available. Windsurfing though comparatively cheap is a tough activity.
