It is perhaps one of the most bizarre claims that ever made by someone pertaining to the eating habits of the people of the state, but then this, not the first time that any religious fanatic had demanded the beef ban in the state, only this one is very strange as it is directly connected to the health of ailing CM who is suffering from a pancreatic cancer.
According to the reports published by the national media TimesNowNews, Swami Chakrapani made a most controversial demand of banning a beef in the state to cure the CM Manohar Parrikar.
While the Chief Minister of Goa, Manohar Parrikar, is undergoing treatment, the leader of All India Hindu Mahasabha, Swami Chakrapani Maharaj, has said that beef ban must immediately be put in place in Goa. According to him, this will have a positive impact on the health of the ailing Chief Minister.
It may be recalled that earlier in 2017 the Vishwa Hindu Parishad Threatened to Ban Beef in the state. The senior leader of VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) Shri Radha Krishna Manori has stated that they (VHP) are capable of imposing ban the Cow Slaughtering and consumption of beef in the state of Goa with the help of Bajarang Dal and Durga Vahini activists and that they do not need the help of Goa government to implement the ban.
“The VHP will not require the help of any government to stop cow slaughter or beef eating, as our wings – Bajrang Dal and Durga Vahini – are capable enough to do it,” said Manori who was addressing the people of Vasco city on the issue of contraction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
The former CM of Goa Laxmikant Parsekar had protected the interest of the minor community as he was seen opposing the beef ban in the state.
BJP-ruled Goa would not ban beef as it is an essential part of the cuisine of minority communities in the state, Said Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar while he was the CM of Goa. “Regardless of what the Centre does, Goa has minorities section between 39-40% and if it is part of their food habits, why and how can we ban it? For people especially minorities eating beef is part of their food,” Parsekar told the Media.
Meanwhile, The bizarre demand by Chakrapani came in after the news of CM Manohar Parrikar being at an advanced stage. Earlier today, Union Minister Shripad Naik said that a “change in leadership is required” considering the health of the incumbent minister.
The state is currently reeling under the absence of their Chief Minister. Parrikar recently chaired a cabinet meeting at his house after a gap of almost three months. He is currently recuperating at his residence in Goa following his discharge from AIIMS in New Delhi on October 14.
“Beef ban in Goa will cure Parrikar. It will have a positive impact on his health,” Chakrapani said. This is contradictory to Goa CM Parrikar’s remarks who defended and backed the bee traders earlier this year. He also warned that anyone who tries to stop the legal import of beef into the state would be punished. This was a response to cow vigilantes in the state.
Whatever may be the views of any religious or political leaders, the beef has become a part of eating habit of the minority community in the state, both Catholics and Muslims consume beef in large quantity and banning of a beef will create a huge disconnect amongst the people of Goa. Meanwhile, the beginning of a new tourism season will also increase the demand for beef in the state.
