Both the accused were brought to the court in the afternoon since Babush had been taken for the psychoanalysis to GMC in the morning.
The lawyer of accused 1 argued that his client is co-operating with the investigation and he surrendered himself before the crime branch while alleging that the sensitive information was leaked by the police in the media “I want to know as how the most sensitive information related to this case reached the media. I also come to know about this through media,” he said.
Babush is facing very serious charges of raping a minor girl at his farmhouse after allegedly spiking her drink. The co-accused and the stepmother of victim girl are charged for alleged selling the girl to the legislature for 50 lakh rupees. The lawyer of second accused argued before the court stating that his client is innocent and all the allegations leveled against her by the victim girl are false.
After getting the information of shifting of the case from Children’s court to the Sessions court in Panaji Journalists had gathered outside the court since morning while police arrived with both the accused at 12.30pm. Surprisingly no journalist was allowed to enter the court premises with cameras. Those who managed to get inside with their mobile cameras were confiscated by the police. This behavior indicates the amount of privacy that is being maintained in this high profile case.
The counsel of Babush told the media that, he feels that the investigation is not done in an unbiased manner right from the beginning. “I feel that the investigation is not biased and it is not done properly right from the beginning. The statement of the girl has been manipulated by the child welfare committee,” he told in the media briefing after coming out of the court.
When the media persons asked him about the allegations he made regarding the unfair investigation while his client is not co-operating with the investigation, the lawyer replied saying , “where is the question of not co-opening? My client is co-operating with the investigations right from the day one. In fact, he had surrendered himself before the police and he is always co-operating with the investigations.”
On asking how the manipulation of the statement is possible when the girl had recorded her statement in front of the magistrate he said: “The manipulation started right from the beginning by the child welfare committee and it is going on now.”
Rajiv Gomes, the counsel of Babush Monseratte told the media that he will not press for the bail at the moment and the next date to produce his client before the court is 12th May, “This time they will produce him in the Children’s court,” he added.
Meanwhile, according to another development taken place, in this case, the stepmother of the victim girl had alleged that her daughter is a habitual liar.
