Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Mr. Laxmikant Parsekar today laid the foundation stone for works on improving tourism spots in Pernem taluka. The works include construction of a traffic island, signages, beautification and illumination from Siolim bridge to Chopdem Junction, and construction of parking and public amenities at Ashwen beach.
[su_expand more_text=”READ MORE” less_text=” ” height=”0″ hide_less=”yes” link_style=”button” link_align=”center”] According to project details, the road extending from Siolim Bridge which leads to the famous beaches of Morjim, Ashwem, Harmal and Keri are very narrow and poses a danger to commuting tourists. The project entails providing proper illumination, footpaths, signages and other facilities which are required for proper connectivity and safety.
The tourism department through this beautification project, plans to develop the said road junction and provide amenities such as footpaths on either side of the road of around 2 meters, improvement to geometrics and widening of the road to 8.5 meters, illumination of the road and footpath, providing road signages, providing a traffic island and enhancing the outlook and beauty of the place.
The works are proposed to be undertaken from the main approach road to the Siolim Bridge up to the Chopdem junction of a length of 600 meters, improvement of the main junction and that from Chopdem junction towards Morjim of a distance of 100 meters, development works from Chopdem junction up to the Village Panchayat of a distance of 100 meters.
This work has been approved by the state government and awarded to M/s Bagkiya Constructions Pvt. Ltd. at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore.
The second part of the project includes construction of parking and public amenities at Ashwem beach. This beach is famous and frequented by foreign and domestic tourists.
Following keen interest was shown by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mr. Parsekar in developing Ashwem beach, the tourism department has taken up the major task of providing the requisite facilities spread over an area of 1,442 sqm.
Under this scheme, it is proposed to provide separate toilets and changing room blocks for men and women and 2 shower rooms, development of the area for parking around 15 cars and 50 two wheelers, illumination and landscaping and a security cabin. The work has been awarded to M/s South East Constructions Pvt. Ltd. at an estimated cost of Rs 95 lakh.
Hon’ble Chief Minister Mr. Parsekar said, “The State government is keen on improving and augmenting tourism related infrastructure at all tourism locations in the State. Facilities like parking, better illumination and beautification of the area, construction of toilets and changing rooms, proper accesses and so on will be given top priority. All this will go a long way in catering to the requirements as Goa is a leading tourism destination and is witnessing a surge in tourist arrivals to the State.”
The Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Mr. Dilip Parulekar, Hon’ble MLA & Chairman of GTDC, Mr. Nilesh Cabral, Sarpanch V.P. Agarwada Chopdem , Smt. Shashikala Damaji, Sarpanch V.P. Mandrem, Smt. Vaishali V. Shirodkar and officials from Goa Tourism and Goa Tourism Development Corporation were present on the occasion.
