Ashvek Vintage World is a Vintage Car Museum situated in Nuvem, Salcete, Goa. It is Goa’s first and only vintage car museum that showcases over a dozen vintage cars sourced from Goa or neighboring areas like Kholapur, Belguam and Sawantwadi. Some things look better with age and Ashvek Vintage World (AVW) – Goa’s first and only vintage car museum- bears testimony to that. Setup in July 2004, AVW completes successful operations till today. The brainchild of Mr. Pradeep V. Naik, it was started to spread awareness about vintage cars amongst the youth. “AVW will serve as education. There is an urgent need to preserve motoring treasures for posterity”, he says. He burns with the passion of inculcating a love and respect for these old beauties which he feels has withered away due to neglect.
Ashvek Vintage World takes up restoration and preservation of vintage cars, and has restored classics such as a 1931Peugeot, a 1948Chevrolet Fleet Master, a rare two-engine Vandall tempo, a 1961Datsun Fairlady, Morris 8 and 1939Mercedes 170 which are currently on display. Some of the cars restored here are in excellent working condition and can be hired out for weddings, movie shoots or simply for joy rides.
The money sourced from this is reinvested in maintaining new and existing cars. AVW is also a pioneer in organizing vintage car rallies in Goa with four already under its belt which include the Volkswagen Rally and the IFFI Rally. They also undertake restoration of vintage cars belonging to other owners. A 1928 Ford belonging to Mr. Rauraje Deshprabhu of Pernem, as well as an attractive Austin belonging to Jaywant Chowgule are just some of the vehicles that have been restored here. AVW also serves as a great location for parties and get-togethers with a well equipped hall on the first floor.
On a relatively small area of the Museum you can find different car models which were produced starting from the middle of the 20th century. Among exhibits tourists can find very interesting models like Chevrolet Fleet master which was produced in 1930 and was the favorite car of American Mafia representatives, or Vidal Tempo (produced in 1936), a military car, the only car with two engines and the first car with a four-cylinder engine which was especially designed for the German military forces. “Ashvek Vintage World” got this amazing and unique historical collection due to Sawantwadi Maharaja who gave the cars to the Museum.
You can also find aMercedes Benz 170 (produced in 1939) familiar to everybody from The Sea Wolves movie with Roger Moore and Gregory Peck. Auto fans can also please themselves by admiring Morris Van Essex (produced in 1924), Ford V8, Peugeot 301, Austin 1928 and Morris 8 cars which are presented in the Museum in their original appearance. Some of the retro and old-fashioned cars are in excellent condition, so that visitors can not only watch and enjoy the Museum’s collection, but also rent a car they like to make for some unforgettable moments or for solemn event usage.
