The police have registered the case of rape and criminal intimidation under sections 376D and 506 of Indian Penal Code. According to the sources, the victim women in her letter to the police has stated that, at around 8.30 pm, she was picked up by her brother from her office in Noida sector 63 and they moved towards their house in Kailash Nagar area of Ghaziabad.

Based on the story narrated by the victim to the police in her letter, she was sitting on the pillion seat while her brother was riding the bike towards their home. When they reach NH-24 due to the heavy traffic they decided to take the short cut via an alternate route which was apparently isolated. While they reached half way they were stopped by the group of five men who started misbehaving with her. When her brother tried to intervene they assaulted him seriously and then dragged the victim into the bushes nearby where they repeatedly raped her one after another. According to her, after the sexual assault, they robbed them of cash and mobile phone and fled the scene.

On her return back to home, the victim went to the Vijay Nagar police station and reported the incident to them. “We have registered the case. We have designated teams on the lookout for the five accused and combing the nearby areas” informed a senior police official. The victim was sent for medical examination, where rape was confirmed.

The national capital is getting more and more unsafe for the women and government seem not doing much despite the repeated incidents of crime against women. The fear of system does not seem to exist in the criminals and hence they keep repeating the cruel act again and again. This is the high time that the responsible authorities must take some serious steps to eradicate the crime from the national capital.
