Goa Police busting a sex racket has become a common topic in recent times. Cases like trafficking and prostitution are growing in the state and Goa is experiencing these cases very frequently now. The reason behind the increase of flesh trade in Goa is said to be because of the tourism. Since Goa is a tourist destination, such rackets are bound to take place in the state. Such rackets not only take place in the coastal belt, but also in other parts of the state. In a recent case, Panjim Police on Tuesday busted another online sex racket, arresting one pimp and rescuing two girls in Panjim-Goa.
According to a source, a trap was laid near a hotel in Panjim early Tuesday where Shashi Pal (22), a native of Himachal Pradesh was caught while delivering two girls for prostitution purposes. PI Siddhant Shirodkar said the two girls, in their mid-twenties, were from Kolkata and being supplied to prospective customers.
“The two victims rescued during the raid have been lodged in the protective home at Merces,” Shirodkar quoted. Pal has been arrested and placed in police custody. He is booked under Sections 4 and 5 of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act and Section 370 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police officials clarified that the raid was conducted keeping in mind the Supreme Court guidelines and claimed that further investigations are in progress.
The business of prostitution is increasing due to the demands of the tourists who enter Goa to get into such illegal activities. Though the Goa Police conducts several raids on such business, the illegal activity still continues in different parts of the state. Will prostitution ever be eradicated from the state? Or just like other illegal activities, it will forever stay in the state of Goa?
