State government has apparently allowed one more casino in River Mandovi but the local panchayat of Penha de Franca village has strongly opposed to the same. [su_expand more_text=”READ MORE” less_text=” ” height=”0″ hide_less=”yes” link_style=”button” link_align=”center”] According to the sources, Penha de Franca Panchayat has opposed the decision of state government to instill one more casino in the River Mandovi. This casino belongs to Deltin Groups entity Deltin Palm Hotel Management. The village panchayat has resolved not to issue the NOC for the vessel to operate in River Mandovi that comes under their jurisdiction.

The reason behind this decision is said to be the dependency of 500 families of fishermen from that locality who are completely dependent on the fishing business and anchoring of the vessel in the river will cause into hampering their business said the source.

The Sarpach on the village panchayat told the media that the local MLA is misleading the people of the village and facilitating the casino business. “We are with the people; the local MLA Rohan Khaunte is misguiding the people of Porvorim that the panchayat members are supporting the anchoring of a new casino in River Mandovi which is false,” Penha de Franca Sarpanch Radhika Sawant said. “We have passed a resolution at a specially called meeting to object the entry and operation of a new casino within our jurisdiction,” Sawant added.

Rajesh Voloikar, the panch of Penha de Franca panchayat had warned the Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte to not to mislead the people of village and also not to claim the credit of development in the village since all the credit of the same goes to only Panchayats. “Mr. Khaunte must not take the undue credit of the development of Porvorim village as the entire developmental projects, including sewerage project, service road and garbage collection have become a reality due to efforts of the panchayat members
