According to the news published by the national daily, Senior leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have given their assent to the Goa leadership to contest assembly elections in the state in 2017.

Based on the information provided by the party sources, they are in the process of contesting the 2017 polls in Goa. “Right now, only the nod that has been given for Goa, we are going all out for Punjab and we will also contest the municipal elections in Delhi. Apart from this, there are no plans to contest any other elections in 2017,” a party source said.

The ‘A team’ comprises of senior party leaders from Delhi and experienced local volunteers are already in the process of assessing the ground level situation in the state to mobilise the local support. Senior party leader Ashutosh is also seen frequenting to state on a regular basis and during his March visit he gave the indications that party is keen to contest elections here in Goa.  “We will hold a rally in Goa in the last week of May and then take a final decision. We have got a very positive response and there is a very good chance that we will contest elections in 2017,” said party spokesperson Sanjay Singh.

Although AAP is very keen on contesting the elections in Goa but certain central leadership is not in favor of taking a dive into the water without checking the level of it. They want to make sure that the ground level mobilization is done before venturing towards the polls.

The party is already stretched thin in terms of finances but money is not the only problem. “The biggest factor in deciding whether elections can be contested in a state is work on the ground. For the other states, contact programmes have not shown the kind of results that would make us contest,” a party leader said.

Now, Goa has one more stronger contender to share the piece of a cake. Congress and BJP are already fighting over the division of seats due to various regional parties that have emerged lately in the state. It looks like Goa assembly poll 2017 is going to be multicolor and more exciting than India-Pakistan match. Let’s wait and watch, meanwhile please do not forget to leave your valuable comments on this issue.
