The sexual abuse within the joint family is not the new story, but many of them do not speak out due to the structure of our society we live in. Here, in this case, a 23-year-old girl, who is a member of a joint family, staying at Verem, came out with courage and exposed her own middle-aged uncles, who had been sexually abusing her for almost a decade. According to the victim girl she was raped by her two uncles for 10 years since she was barely 13.   

According to the reports published in the Hindustan Times, Two middle-aged brothers were arrested Wednesday for allegedly raping their niece for the last ten years since the time she was a teenager, the police said.

The matter of sexual abuse came out when the local NGOs came in the support of the victim girl from Verem Goa. 

According to the statement of a victim girl, she tried to approach the Porvorim police but the PI of Porvorim Paresh Naik overlooked the matter and refused to lodge a complaint. 

Subsequent to denial of the Porvorim Police Inspector, the victim girl decided to approach the NGO, and after the NGO brought the girl into Media, police swung into the action and arrested both the middle-aged uncles of a victim girl.    

The accused duo, now in their 40s, had been raping the girl (now 23) since the time she was 13-year-old, said the sources.

The victim girl told the media (in front of the camera) that she tried to approach the police with the complaint of her sexual abuse, but the PI did not entertain her pleadings and refused to file FIR. 

Finally, after the intervention of the NGOs, police had registered a case against the accused under sections 376 (Punishment for rape) and 355 (Assault or criminal force with intent to dishonor person, otherwise than on grave provocation), besides under Goa Children’s Act, said the sources.
