A shocking incident of molestation has made news in the national capital once again. A 40-year-old piano teacher has been arrested in southeast Delhi’s Kalkaji area for sexually assaulting his seven-year-old student over a period of two months, police said on Sunday. The victim, who is a resident of Govindpuri Extension, had been learning to play piano from the accused, Ravi Kumar, for the last two years, a senior police officer said. The girl told her father that she didn’t want to go to the piano class but he couldn’t understand the reason for her refusal, police said. The girl had been telling her mother that she doesn’t want to attend the class because she did not like her teacher, but her mother was unable to understand the child’s suffering. On Saturday afternoon, when her father came home from work, she started crying and told him that she didn’t want to attend the class anymore.
The father sat with her and had a detailed conversation about why she was being so adamant about not attending her piano lessons. That is when the parents came to know that their daughter was being sexually exploited by her teacher. The shocked parents reached Kalkaji police station along with their daughter and registered a formal complaint. A medical exam of the girl confirmed that she was raped.
The most shocking part of the incident was that the assault took place at the victim’s house itself. Kumar would come to the girl’s house to teach her. He would take her to a separate room and often locked the door to the room. For two months, the assault went on without the parents of the victim having a clue about it. A case under section 376 IPC (rape) and relevant sections of the POCSO Act was registered and the accused was arrested from his Kalkaji home, police said.
