India is considered to be one of the nine nations in the world, that has a huge database of sex offenders, and lately, the tiniest state in the country, have been into the news due to several rape cases. This may not be the first case wherein a minor has been abused, the rape case of Vasco, wherein the accused managed to flee out of the country, is yet to see the light of justice.
Here, in this case, a 6-year-old girl was repeatedly raped by the three accused, over the period of three months, said the sources. According to the reports, the minor girl, daughter of a construction worker in Canacona, around 70km from Panaji, was raped by the three security guards, on three different occasions, over the period of four months. The report has been confirmed by the PI (Police Inspector-in-Charge) of Canacona police station Mr. Rajendra Prabhudesai.
According to the sources, a team of Goa police, lead by Pi Mr. Prabhudesai, managed to nab the accused persons from the contraction site on the charges of raping the 6-year-old girl. “Manoj Kumar, 20, of Madhya Pradesh, Jaidip Ree, 24, and Ravi Ree, 25, from Assam, who worked as security guards at the construction site where the victim’s father was employed, have been arrested,” Prabhudessai told reporters.
According to the official, the accused used to lure the victim girl on the pretext of offering her sweets. Police have registered the case under Goa Children’s Act after recording the survivor’s statement in the presence of a voluntary organization. Based on the statement, police have registered an offense under sections 365 (kidnapping), 354 (molestation) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act (POSCO). The minor was sent for a medical examination and the report is awaited, police said.
The growing amount of rape cases in Goa is an alarming issue for the state.
