45-Year-Old History Sheeter Murdered at Vasco with Head Smashed to Conceal the identity

A 45-year-old history sheeter was found dead at Vaddem in Vasco with his head smashed beyond recognition to conceal his identity by the accused persons. The body was found dumped in the garbage dump in the bushes near simple bar in Vasco da Gama. The police feel that the victim was murdered elsewhere and later his body was dumped into the bushes by the accused persons. The incident is said to have taken place on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, said the sources.

The incidents of fights and murders have become regular in Goa with several cases taking place on the daily basis across he state. The crime rate is growing and people are becoming less tolerance about the situations. The recent death of notorious gangster at Sada Sub-jail in Vasco had already raised the eyebrows of the people and now the second case has come in the media. According to the sources, the body of the history sheeter and accused of murder, Prasad alias Seby Patra was found dead, lying in the garbage dump with his head smashed beyond recognition by the accused persons.

The sources have said that the case has been booked under the section 302 (Murder) against the unknown accused persons. The police further said that the body of the 45-year-old Seby Patra was found lying in the garbage dump near New Vaddem in Vasco-Da-Gama on Friday. The face of the victim was beyond recognition and it appeared to be smashed with a laterite stone, said the police sources. The Police also feel that the crime possibly took place on Thursday night and the victim was murdered elsewhere before getting dumped by the accused in the garbage dump near Vaddem in Vasco.

According to the sources, one of the local residents had noticed the body of Patra lying in the garbage dump surrounded by bushes on Friday morning and informed the same to the local police. “The way the laterite stone has been used to smash the face, it appears that the murder took place in a fit of anger. We have some clues from the incident site and have rounded up a few persons. We are hopeful that we will crack the case,” said Vasco PI Nolasco Raposo.

According to the Vasco PI Nolasco Raposo, the deceased was a history-sheeter and was booked by the police along with several others in a murder case several years ago. “During inquiry, we learned that the deceased was booked along with others in a murder case reported several years ago, however, he was acquitted. We are now investigating the case from all angles, including the possibility of the previous enmity.”       

Senior police officials including DySP Laurence D’Souza, SP South Goa Chandan Choudhary visited the incident site. Police have conducted the inquest panchnama and sent the body for post-mortem. The report is awaited.           

Meanwhile, the local ward councilor of Vaddem, Mr. Shridhar Mardolkar had made a claim that, the area where the body was found is being used by anti-social elements during the night time. He further said that, despite repeated complaints to the police action has not been taken. They requested that police intensify patrolling in the area.
