In one of the most shocking incidents that took place at Shanti Nagar, Navelim in south Goa, a 42-year-old man was shot dead by a 36-year-old Fayaz from Navelim at a point-blank range. The victim died on the spot, said the sources. This incident shook the entire state as this incident took place at a Bar in Shanti Nagar Margao.
According to the police reports, the victim Abdul Kadar Valikar, a mason by profession, was shot dead following a brawl at a Bar located at a Godinho Bar in Shanti Nagar, Navelim, situated in South Goa. The accused whose name has been revealed as Fayaz A Khatib, 36-year-old, a native of Karnataka had shot the victim from point blank range and fled the scene.
According to the Margao Police, the accused is on the run but they said he will be behind the bars pretty soon. The sources revealed that the victim Valikar had a heated discussion with the accused, who has been identified as Fayaz Khatib, over a petty issue following which the latter lost his patience, pulled out the gun and fired three rounds from point blank at victim leaving him dead on the spot. “We are still gathering details about the incident,” a senior police official told the PTI.
One of the eyewitnesses said that the incident took place at Godinho Bar in Navelim on Tuesday afternoon when the group of five people was sitting and drinking in a Bar.
This is perhaps first such case wherein a small-time Mason was shot dead over a petty issue in a Bar by a mechanic. It is the matter of very serious concern as this incident shows that people like mechanics are carrying arms and ammunition in a highly irresponsible manner and are capable of making use of it anywhere and anytime.
This case will be a big challenge or the police as well the home department. This incident proves how weak our policing system has become that people are not scared to carry a gun and make use of it in a broad daylight.
