In yet another deadly accident that took place at Dharbandora a 33-year-old youth William Lobo, a resident of Mollem died on the spot while the pillion rider Jocky Coutinho, 28, a resident of Nuem, Margao sustained severe injuries and admitted to hospital.
According to the sources, William Lobo, 33, a resident of Mollem along with another youth Jocky Coutinho, 28, a resident of Nuem Margao was proceeding towards Mollem via Ponda – Dharbandora Road on his Bajaj CD 100 motorcycle bearing registration number GA-07-D-0934. When their bike reached near Dharbandora Sugar factory the speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit the bike causing the previous injuries to the rider and pillion. The sources said that the rider received severe head injuries and succumbed to the injuries on the way to the hospital.
The Pillion rider had managed to escape with the injuries on his legs. The police sources said the pillion rider broke his leg and had been admitted into the GMC for the treatment. The truck driver, however, managed to escape from the scene and abandoned his vehicle around 3 km from the accident spot.
Upon the receipt of the news, the Ponda police team under the guidance of PSI Naveed Desai reached the accident spot as the station in charge PI Sudesh Naik was not available at the station as he was attending the meeting in Margao. According to the Ponda PI Sudesh Naik, “When I received the news of accident I was not at the station since I was attending a meeting in Margao but soon after the meeting I reached the spot and taken the stock of the situation and found out that that the rider expired on the way to hospital due to serious injuries on this head,” Said Mr. Naik adding that “The pillion rider managed to escape with the injuries on his legs and had been admitted into GMC for further treatment.”
According to the Ponda police, the accident took place at around 3.30 PM on Tuesday. At the time of the accident, the truck was proceeding towards the Ponda while the rider along with his friend was proceeding towards Mollem. They took the Poda-Dharbadora Road to reach the destination faster, said the sources. When the bike reached near Dharbandora Sugar factory the speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit the bike resulting in the serious head injuries to the rider and fractured legs of the pillion rider.
The rider was immediately shifted to the nearby hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead. Meanwhile, the pillion rider was admitted into the GMC with multiple fractures in his leg. According to the police sources, the truck involved in the accident was bearing the Karnataka registration number and it was found abandoned at around 3KM from the accident spot at Pansurlem in Usgaon and the driver of the truck is absconding at present.
The Ponda PI told the media that, the truck driver managed to escape the scene and left his truck at around 3KM alway from the accident spot at the place called Pinsulem. “We are in search of the driver and he will soon be lodged in the police custody,” said PI Naik.
