DEADLY ACCIDENT TOOK PLACE AT PORVORIM NEAR KTM BIKE SHOWROOM. 23-YEAR-OLD JEEVAN COLACO FROM ASSAGAO, BARDEZ, WHO WAS SITTING PILLION ON THE BIKE, DIED ON THE SPOT. THE BIKE WAS RIDDEN BY MOHIZIN FERNANDES FROM ASSAGAO, HE MANAGED TO ESCAPE UNHURT IN THIS ACCIDENT. THE SOURCES SAID THAT BOTH YOUTH ARE THE STUDENTS OF DMC COLLEGE MAPUSA…

According to the sources, the accident took place on a Tuesday afternoon, on Panaji Mapusa highway, near KTM bike showroom, in Porvorim. The bike on which both the youth were traveling was hit by the truck from behind, causing the severe fatality to 23-year-old, Jeevan.

The impact was so severe that the pillion rider died on the spot, said the sources. The bike was ridden by Mohizin Fernandes while the deceased Jeevan was sitting pillion on the bike. The sources said that when their bike reached near KTM showroom, a speeding truck banged on their bike from behind, due to which Jeevan, who was sitting pillion, flung off the bike, and died on the spot.

The rider, Mohizin Fernandes had a miraculous escape from this deadly accident. The source said that he only suffered minor injuries, and was discharged from GMC after the first aid. The Porvorim police have arrested the truck driver for driving in a rash and negligent manner, thus causing the death of a person. He will be booked under section 304, said the sources in the Porvorim police station.

The body of the deceased has been sent to GMC for the post-mortem. Despite strict vigil of traffic police, the road accidents are not reducing, and the reason behind this is the rash and negligent driving. The bigger vehicles just don’t care, due to which most of the road accidents take place in the state, said the sources.

The deceased Jeevan was a young and promising student of DMC college in Mapusa. Due to the mistake of a truck driver, one innocent life was lost. The police need to take severe action against the culprit truck driver, who is mainly responsible for this accident.

The Panaji Mapusa highway has become an accident-prone zone, and we suggest the people ride safely and make use of helmets for both rider and pillion. You might have seen that in most of the cases, pillion rider loses life in the event of an accident, and hence the wearing the helmets can really reduce the severity of the road accidents.

Traffic police alone cannot do everything, they need the participation of people into their mission to reduce the road fatalities in the state. Please leave your valuable comments on this very serious issue.
