The incident of the rape came into the light when the girl was reported missing from her aunt’s place. According to the sources, the Goa police managed to trace the whereabouts of the girl and found her staying with her female friend. According to police when they did the interrogation of the girl she narrated the incident of rape to the police. The police said victim’s maternal aunt knew about the sexual assault but did not inform the authorities.
According to the reports published by PTI, A 22-year-old man was arrested on Friday from south Goa after a 15-year-old girl accused him of repeated rape over the last six months at the residence of her relative, police said on Saturday.
The victim girl was staying with her maternal aunt when the accused came in contact with her. The police sources revealed that the parents of the victim girl got separated which left her no choice but to stay with her aunt at Canacona.
The accused is identified as Samir Velip resident of Canacona, Goa, said the police sources.
According to police, Velip allegedly used to rape the girl at the house of her maternal aunt. A police officer said the woman knew about the crime but never reported to police.
The story took a different turn when the victim left her aunts place and started staying with one her female friend. The aunt went into the police as the girl did not inform her of anything before leaving her place.
After her aunt lodged a missing report, police traced the girl and recorded her statement. “During the recording of her statement, the girl disclosed to police that she was raped on several occasions by the accused in the last six months,” said Canacona police inspector Rajendra Prabhudesai.
Velip has been booked under stringent provisions of the Goa Children’s Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Prabhudesai said the girl’s aunt was also booked under POCSO for abetting the crime. “She is yet to be arrested,” he said.
