Rising road accident have taken one more life in Cortalim on Monday evening. Sharon D’Cruz, a 19-year-old girl, a resident of First Aravale Cortalim was killed on the spot. Maruti Estilo car dashed against her at Cortalim-Verna highway near Thana junction in Cortalim. Read here the incident.

She wanted to cross the road and was standing with a utensil filled with water in her hand. Maruti Estilo car registration no-GA-06-D-3655 which was at its high speed was heading towards Verna from Cortali, dashed against her. The speed of the car was so much that it dragged her almost 7 to 8 meters away from the accident site. The bang was so much that she died on the spot. After that Maruti Estilo car dashed against a Hero Honda Pleasure motorcycle, with registration no- GA-06-H-8433 which was parked on the pavement. With god’s grace motorcycle rider sustained an injury to his leg and is now out of danger.
The driver of the wretched car dumped the vehicle and ran away from the accident site. He was then arrested by the Verna police; he is identified as Krishna Pandurang Karapurkar, a local of Maimollem, Vasco who is currently staying at MES College Zuarinagar.
The driver has been registered an offence under Section 279, 304 (A) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and is police are further investigating the case. The case is under the supervision of PI Shailesh Narvekar and deputy superintendent of police Vasco Sucheta Desai.
Road accidents have taken 4 lives in the state and all of them were severe accidents. Road safety week was celebrated by the people all over the state but actual safety is in our own hands. People riding their vehicle should think about it seriously and should take necessary precautions in advance rather than later feeling sorry.
