The disaster can strike anytime, and anywhere, but if one remains prepared for it, then the possibility of fatality reduces. Here, in this case, a Pimple tree collapsed on a house at Rivora injuring 5 members of a family, and an 11-year-old boy lost his life in this nature’s strike. The family members have blamed the government for this accident. According to the bereaved family, they had informed about the danger posed by the tree to the concerned authorities, but nothing was done by them, if the tree was felled in time then this incident could have been averted.

According to the sources, the incident took place in the middle of a night, at around 1.30 am on Sunday, when the entire family was embraced in a deep sleep. The sources said that the family had informed the concern authorities about the danger posed by the tree, but the Government did not make any kind of provision to remove the tree from the location, which ultimately resulted in the loss of one innocent life.

The fire brigade personnel informed that the deceased Samarth an 11-year-old boy died on the spot as one of the branches of the tree had fallen on his head. One of the senior family members, Vaishali Revodkar told the media that she has been following up with the concerned authorities for the removal of the dangerous tree from that location, but nobody ever bothered to consider her pleadings. “I am staying here for past 25 years and I have been following up with the concerned departments for past seven years for the felling of the tree which was posing the danger to all of us,” said Vaishali adding that she had given the applications to all the concern departments including the Forest, Electricity, Panchayat, and Mamlatdar office.

THE TREE CAME CRASHING ON THE FAMILY MEMBERS KILLING ONE

Meanwhile, the Sarpanch of the Rivora told the media that they will now look into the matter and will try to help the bereaved family with the financial help. Although he had failed to inform about the reason for not taking timely action and removing the tree which was posing the danger to the family who lost their beloved child in this incident.

This is not the first case wherein such type of natural calamity claimed the life of an innocent, but there are many such cases in the Goan villages. The government makes all the provisions and development only in the cities, and villages have always been neglected.

THE FIRE BRIGADE PERSONNEL PERFORMING RESCUE OPERATIONS

The local representatives like the sarpanch, in this case, come forward only after the loss has occurred. It is very much possible that local MLA or Sarpanch may offer some financial help to the bereaved family but will they be able to fill up the loss of life? Why does the government not takes things seriously and do something for the people residing in the villages of  Goa? Will this case become an eye-opener for the government?
