There were and still are many restrictions on women in different parts of the world. But we can accept that the restrictions on women in 90s and before were too many and that today women are living at least a well to do life. We all know that there is still a long way to go for secure total equality of women. We can take an example of Irish women. Earlier in the 1970s they could not own their own home or even go to a pub. They could not sit on a jury or refuse to have sex with their husbands. Likewise, even American women were restricted and there were some things which they were not allowed to do.
