In a shocking incident, Margao municipal councilor Ashlesha Naik died while trying to save the life of a 17-year-old youth. According to the available information, after having seen the youth getting drowned in the river she went for his rescue but in the bargain she lost her life and could not save the youth. [su_expand more_text=”READ MORE” less_text=” ” height=”0″ hide_less=”yes” link_style=”button” link_align=”center”] According to the news made available by the local TV channel Prudent Media, on Sunday 1st May, Ashlesha Naik along with her friends went for a picnic to Usgaon Sonarbag in north Goa. She was the part of the group of around 20 people said the sources.

The sources also said that, the picnic was organized by one her friend at his farmhouse in Usgaon. Mohd Arafat from a 17 year old youth from Curchorem apparently entered the water in the nearby river. Looking at him getting drawn in the river Ashlesha went for his rescue but could not save him and reportedly both of them lost their lives.

According to the report, the bodies both deceased, Ashlesha Naik and Mohd. Arafat was sent to GMC for the post mortem.

The Mayor of Margao Municipal Council, Babita Prabhudesai had offered her condolences saying, “It is very tragic incident that took place, we lost our friend and colleague. She apparently went to save the life of young boy but in bargain accidently he pulled her in the water. She was very good swimmer,” Babita told the media.

The final rites on Ashlesha will be performed on the 2nd May, said the sources.
