It is evident fact that the cable TV business got hampered badly due to the digital revolution brought by DTH (Direct to Home) operators in India. Cable operator fraternity had started the media revolution in India somewhere in 1982 with the entry of colour TV in India. Since then it has been the lifeline of entertainment in India. The idiot box was never so appealing before the revolution of cable network in India. But as the technology is not the slave of the time, it keeps changing rapidly and the entry of DTH changed the entire scenario of the industry. Channels started mushrooming beyond the scope of imagination. The cable network which started with hardly handful of channels has now grown into huge network with the entry of DTH.

As DTH business became more lucrative many players started jumping into this field, the quality of service increased tenfold and the bad days of cable TV network commenced. But now the entry of NXT Digital could be considered as the re-birth of cable business in India. According to the speech delivered by the MD of NXT Digital (Grant Investrade Limited, subsidiary of Hinduja Group) Tony D’Silva at the press conference held on 7th August, at Taj Vivanta in Panaji, the cable operation will parish if not converted to digital media by the end of December 2015. The government of India has set the deadline to install the set top box and convert the analog signals to digital in cable network and in case of non compliance before the due date will result into the prosecution of the defaulters according the provisions in the law.

According to Tony, the setting up of digital network at the individual business level, is out of the reach of the cable operators, as it needs the huge investment and supply of the set top box to the consumer is not feasible for individuals and hence the NXT Digital has come to the rescue of the cable operators to provide them with the ready solutions available at their NOIDA Earth Station which is set by the Hinduja Group by investing more than 50 million dollars, which has state of an art equipments and that will provide the MPEG 4 quality video and crystal clear audio that through the mediation of cable fraternity.  “In the past 21 days,” D’Silva said, “we have reached out to the cable fraternity across several cities, and I am delighted to share that they are extremely excited about NXT DIGITAL.” Said D’silva

Overall as per the information provided by D’Silva the main Earth Station at Noida will downlink the signals from broadcasters and then it will uplink to the their own satellites which in return will downlink it to the cable operators servers before it reaches to every home within the network of particular cable operators. According to him the cable operator just needs to do the one time investment which could be as low as 8.9 Lakh for the setup of equipments and monthly charges of Rs. 20/- per consumer.

The cable operators will be completely independent while the NXT Digital will work as their back office for all their consumers. The consumers will have 24 X 7 call centre facility with no extra cost. This will not just give the new life to the dying business of cable fraternity in India but it will bring superior quality digital signals to the consumers too.
